How to review a missed SAT Reading and Writing question

Return to the task before the choices

Restate what the question asks in your own words: a relationship, function, transition, punctuation boundary, or claim. Then identify the smallest piece of text that controls that task. This prevents an appealing answer choice from setting the agenda.

Compare evidence, not vibes

For two plausible choices, ask what exact statement would have to be true for each to win. A choice that sounds polished but adds strength, certainty, or scope that the text does not support is not a close synonym for the evidence.

1. Underline qualifiers such as “may,” “some,” or “although.”
2. Name the relationship the sentence needs to express.
3. Eliminate choices for a specific mismatch before choosing among what remains.

Make the retry transfer

Create a short rule from the mismatch and apply it to a fresh sentence or passage. Re-reading the same choice order can create familiarity without showing that your reasoning changed.
